Devon School Library Service

The School Library Service’s mission is to make a difference to the learning and reading experiences of children and young people. We aim to:

  • help children achieve a love of learning and the ability to learn independently
  • encourage children of all abilities to enjoy books and broaden their reading horizons
  • provide responsive and value-for-money services geared to the needs of schools, their staff and students
  • promote information literacy in the age of Google
  • help teachers by improving the quality of school resources for curriculum support
  • put the school library at the heart of the school and therefore accessible to all
  • add value to schools’ outcomes for Every Child Matters and making an impact on school improvement.

We foster responsive and supportive relationships with schools and their staff, providing value for money and maximising opportunities and outcomes for all.

At Devon School Library Service we offer comprehensive support for all aspects of library-related resources through a variety of options, from full subscription to pay-as-you-use. Experienced and friendly specialist staff provide advice and practical help, as well as books and other items to support curriculum work and leisure reading. Our School Library Centres have a wide-ranging stock for pre-school through to sixth form, including professional materials for teachers and librarians.

We have our own website at www.devonsls.org.uk where you can find out a lot more about what we can offer you, download resources and much more!
