LDP Educational Psychology

LDP
Educational Psychology is concerned with the development,
learning, achievement and well being of children and young
people. Members of the team work with staff of pre-school settings,
schools and colleges and with parents / carers to try to bring
about positive change for children who are experiencing difficulties.
The team is part of Learning and Development Partnership (LDP)
working closely with CYPS Social Services and Health Service
colleagues to improve outcomes for children and young people.
The team contributes to strategic planning within the Local Authority
by using information from direct work to inform policy and practice
development. The team contributes to a wide range of inter-agency
planning and implementation groups.
The team aims to help its users to achieve better outcomes for
all Devon children through specialist consultation, advice and
support.
Staffing
LDP Educational Psychology comprises educational
psychologists, advisory teachers for social, emotional and
behaviour difficulties and for autistic spectrum disorders, specialist
support assistants and family workers, as well as administrative staff.
The team is organised into three locality units, based in
Barnstaple, Exeter and Totnes. Each team services a group of learning communities
and the children, young people and families living in those
learning communities.
Service delivery
The work of the LDP Educational Psychology is organised into
three main areas:
- Managing the needs of individual children and young
people (mainly through supporting schools and pre school settings
in assessing and planning of intervention work through joint
investigation and problem solving at early years / school action
and early years / school action plus)
- Work with children
and young people who are identified as particularly disadvantaged
or vulnerable – including
children who are in care to the Local Authority, children who
live with domestic violence, children without a school place,
children at risk of exclusion, children who may be subject to
discrimination, bullying or harassment and children with particularly
complex needs
- Work with schools at an organisational
level to enhance their capacity to meet a wide range of needs
(through policy development work, training, teacher coaching,
action research)
Time is allocated to each of these activity areas and learning
communities receive the highest percentage of Service time.
Individual schools are also able to purchase additional educational
psychology time through LDP.
